open world =/= forcing the player to drive across town for next race, mw also had open world but didnt force u to do that unless u wanted to(and it wasnt a useless feature even if u didnt because of police pursuits)
idk i feel like how the games work nowadays (open map, press on mission, press start) kinda sucks
ppl dont travel around etc
i get what u mean in general, and i sometimes feel annoyed by having to drive around as well buit imo when i think back it was far more enjoyable to not have the option to start a mission from across the map
actually i used to just drive around doing nothign xd

my opinion is that if ure gonna make an open world game and make the player travel around it u might as well add something to do there aside from main quests/objectives, nfsu2 didnt rly have anything to do there except challenge roaming racers and look for info/cash pickups
