Look at me, Hector.

"in football you stand and do nothing but watch the ball for 90 minutes" - relentless

probably the most autistic thing i've read from you in 4 years, congratulations

http://webm.host/f4f4d/ < must watch when it comes to people like relentless and retards full of themselves

    plz do

Thats some video game romance here. I like that dota is growing and becoming a major esports happening. But the truth in my eyes is that video games are for socially awkward boys, who just wanna game. Thats a target group, which lives in a fictional world chatting w random steam friends. Friendships, which usually dont last long. I really dont know how it could eclipse all previous sports.

It is weird that it is called sport anyways.

Lets say u play 90 min of casual football - u become physically tired and get a beer w ur mates afterwards(or no beer, whatever - but ur social). Ur body releases a lot of happy hormones, which will make u deeply satisfied and healthy. Its natural.
Lets say u play 90 min of casual dota - u become mentally tired and u dont even realise it until u dont have a screen in front of u anymore. Ur body is on a dopamine high like an addict. It is unnatural.

Dota or better mobas in general are too complicated enough to eclipse other sports.

Anybody w little knowledge about football can watch a football game without getting too tired. Its simple - u follow the ball w ur eyes and u know that the teams have to score within 90 minutes. Once in a while the game is slow or the referee interrupts the game. Simple short pauses in order to refocus. If u miss an important situation, a brilliant and professional casting team will ofc show lots of slow motions. Many cameras lead almost to a omni - vision. Its easy entertainment and world cups will be watched by a huge audience, which in return brings big bucks into the business by commercials. (Monetisation of sports is what makes them "successful and big")

Anybody w little knowledge about dota will be overwhelmed by watchin a dota game. Dota has so many barriers, which we as dota players love, cuz we think it makes us special. For example: You have to learn so much in order to understand whats happening in dota. The (albeit incomplete) omni vision leads to many information, which are ultra detailed and really hard to categorise. A single best of five can easily take 5 tiresome hours. Just try to watch a long lasting pro chess match or even better a Go match (ofc if ur not used to watching that) - and u will understand what i mean. Also, there is not as much money in dota like u think it is, because even the biggest events are massively crowd-funded.

      tl;dr. tl;dr!

wat ? im prettysure playing/winning good competitive dota game(aka not 1 side stomP) gives more more dopamine than any real life interactions (except maybe for sex.. )

and yes i did sports starting from football to basketball to karate and wingchun(and many more) < gaming all of those

also what ur saying TL;DR version

Football > vidyagame cuz its more retard friendly

        long season

trends will change and people will move on to other games , fanbase will shrink and the dota will lose it's spot as a top e sport but I think that could be prolonged with a continued rise in popularity of e sports in general. who knows when or why it will happen but we will decline at some point.

despite that i get the feeling there will still be plenty of people in pubs typing gg at first blood like the good ol days , we will all grow old and move on with our lives but we will get the sudden urge to to play another pub. we will see ice frog still delivering patches and maybe adding new shit to make the game more "interesting" as it ages (implenting occulus rift support) but we will be flooded with nostalgia and a crack a warm smile and maybe chuckle a little when we see "pUtang ina MO bobo mid" or " jjajajajaja i feed puta ggg" and not to mention >well played! spammed in team chat incessantly , remembering when such phrases filled us with rage and contempt just to gain some worthless points with which we could measure our e-penises. ahh i cant wait

i'm just glad to be a part of something that's iconic and'll be played by people of all ages apparently

            plz do

              @NASA

First of all, this not a judgmental post. Let me explain a bit about dopamine to u, since u seem to have little knowledge about it.

              Simply said:
What does dopamine do? It is a feel-good neurotransmitter (=hormon) in ur braincells, mostly linked w motivation and instant gratification. Next to that it has some other effects e.g. heart and kidney.

Why do people get addicted to stimulants like amphetamine/coke/gaming? Because it stimulises dopamine receptors or increases the dopamine production. With all that extra dopamine lurking around (u got from gaming or amphetamines), the brain will produce less of this neurotransmitter itself. In ur regular activities u will always have low dopamine, u will never feel as good as w ur source of dopamine. Might even get behavioural problems or withdrawal symptoms. So far, these are scientific facts - until refuted.

Some people call this binging, i believe - they get triggered and cannot calm down/focus until they take their drug. (and if lose those rounds... no wonder there is so much salt)
I live in a dopamine addicted world - no wonder why there are so many kids w ADHD and/or depression. I think that is somewhat sad. Whatever it is what u do, remember that ur brain and body adjusts to that as well. Your body is your temple!

edit: i agree w ur tl;dr version somewhat. football>videogames because its more retardfriendly. (at least in the way its presented and shaped for its audience)

                I don't know
I will always enjoy watching soccer/rugby over watching DOTA even though I enjoy both

Problem is soccer can't make "virtual items" and rewards to encourage fans to buy the official game guide to contribute to a crowd funded prize pool

                TripleSteal-

i was practicing shittons of sports along my life, and always considered competitive games to be similar to them, just due to the fact that I enjoy both due to the same feelings that I dunno how to call.
you can't say that football>dota or vice versa though, they are just different.

                  plz do

                    @triple and everyone else
Same same but different. Difference lies in what happens physiologically in ur body/brain/mind while u are at it. Maybe u r unaware of it but its substantial. Like for example oxytocin and dopamine are both love hormones. Somewhat similar to each other and both important to bind urself socially, but still different.
Oxytocin nourishes long lasting deep relation-ships (between a child and mother or in a long lasting marriage), while dopamine nourishes prostitute-regulars, who are always looking for the next coitus.

Football > dota in terms of which ecplises or will eclipse the other as a simplified mental image.

Sorry, if u read my walls of text and felt that it was a waste of time. I suck at communicating my arguments, because I leave out explanations in between. If anyone reads this, who can explain things better than me, pls go ahead.

                    TripleSteal-

^I dont understand how is this point valid. Yes, once we hear the word "sport", our brain will most likely unconciously summon an image of football, not dota, but that's not what the discussion is about. We just enjoy playing competitive e-games same way as we do with "normal" sports. At least, that's true for me.
On top of that, I would add card games to this list, cz for me it's basically same kind of rest.

                      plz do

point is that dota (moba/esports) wont eclipse football(real sports) , cuz its unnatural/unhealthy and cannot mobilise the masses.

                          plz do

"It is because of the medium that Dota will ultimately eclipse all previous sports." thats what OP said so I tried to answer accordingly.

                            Vaikiss`742.

if it wasnt so complicated it might eventually

                              Relentless

TripleSteal understands very clearly the essential truth that dota 2 is enjoyed as a sport in precisely the same way as the major iconic sports are and have been.

hushhush analysis is backwards. Football is harder for new players to watch and understand than dota. Both American football and soccer, basketball as well, all have an obstacle to becoming a fan which dota does not. Dota 2 can be easily broken down into little sub-games and the pieces understood. The 3 to 5 second 11 v 11 rush of an NFL play is much harder to comprehend to a neophyte than a teamfight in dota. But in football that's the whole game - in dota 2 most of the game is much easier to grasp as a spectator. The laning, the ganks, smoking to rosh, sieging a tower, farming, warding, stacking - all these elements can be clearly seen, explained, and understood by people who do not need to know about the rest of the game to grasp the concepts.

There are some here who continue to erroneously believe that dota 2 requires tremendous depth of knowledge and strategic understanding to enjoy. It does not. It is because the game is in fact simple and easy to comprehend that so many millions love to play it. To become an elite player requires more, but not to be a fan. In this way dota 2 is far more like baseball than football or basketball. Baseball is very easy to grasp conceptually, almost nothing is disguised, and it can be broken down into simple plays for newer people to learn.

Vaikiss knows from direct experience that playing dota 2 is a greater high, a more powerful and sustainable thrill than all sports. His experience is not unique - in fact it is nearly universal. I have played nearly every sport and game available in the US. I would say ping-ping and hand-ball are the only things close to dota 2. Boxing, or ultimate fighting - those are the only things that can match dota 2 - but you can't keep doing those things very long. The constant alertness, stimulus every second of gameplay - the simulated threat of attack. It feels like being in a real fight - but lacks the consequences of taking real damage or real danger.

Wave, I know you will cry long and loud - you will gnash your teeth in rage, but in the end even you will be forced into reality. The opposite of your wish for dota 2 to be nearly over will be fulfilled. It will go on growing and become important to enormous numbers of people - and you will never achieve the success and recognition you crave.

On top of all this, dota 2 has superior commentary and play-by-play. The top shoutcasters rival the great radio announcers of the previous century. By comparison the suits who are hired to fill the panels and sit behind the desks for major sporting events are boring, colorless, inhibited, and unimaginative. The play-by-play of someone like Sheever, or Ayseee is clearly superior to what you get at an NFL or NBA game. And as the money is flowing in- production value of Dota 2 tournaments is also surpassing that of major sports. They are innovative - driven to always provide the spectacle fans want to see.

Dota 2 combines the tapestry of fashion shows, the glory of rock concerts, and the competitive power of a major sporting event. Mark my words - females will become a nearly equal share of the fanbase as time goes on. Adults will make up a greater and greater portion of the audience. In the long term Dota 2 will be a game for adults, not children as it has been in the early years. Children will play LoL and other games with less depth. Such games will be seen like T-ball is - functioning as an introduction to basic motions so little kids can get ready to play Dota 2 when they are older.

When, as the years go by, you see that I am right you may or may not remember what I have said. But it will be the reality you live whether you see it coming or not.

Understanding the game has nothing to do with what you said though. If you know what out, touch, corner and all the other shit are and when they happen, you understand the game. Pretty simple. Talking about advanced stuff like libero, center-back etc are what makes you knowledgable about the game.

They are miles behind real sport commentators in my country (at least for football and ice hockey). I think they talked about Lotus Orb for like 20 minutes today and they said so many stupid things that it's embarrasing. Man just create a goddamn lobby and try it out for yourself, how hard can it be. Some of the things this Zyori guy says are so unbelievably stupid. At least LD doesn't try to sound smart about things he doesn't understand.

We have people with a great broadcasting voice (Ayesee), we have people with good insight (Capitalist, Merlini, Blitz), we have people with good play-by-play (Toby and some others) but unfortunately we don't have anyone with all these three (or even two) skills.

                                                                Bu yorum düzenlendi

Now tracks are all modified for the best grip etc. Running shoes are lighter etc etc. I saw this documentary about how last time runners were almost running on sand in comparison to the tracks we have now. So yeah ahaha.
