While the new double rune greatly boosts the impact of midgamers, Ogre falls off too quickly against other mids.
Unless you ball really hard, it ain't viable. He plays best as #3 or #4.
Anyway, the best build would be Stout>Bottle>Basic Boots>Force/Blink>Aghs>Situational. These items will be core to him playing as mid but anything after depends on the game. Enemy jugger raping you? Get ghostscepter into eb. Team lacks aoe? Get Shivas. Etc.
Ogre doesn't scale that badly. With Aghs and levels his burst damage is pretty strong if you get even 1 x2 multicast, and with the buff to the x2 multicast chance it's pretty likely. Bloodlust is also amazing to spam on your carries.
It's probably not good in comp games but you can definitely make it work in pubs. Offlane Ogre would be interesting if they have a weak safelane. Kinda similar to Pudge offlane I guess.
He'll always be Soft Support at best (BUT a very good one) so mid seems kind of wasted on him.
He's actually one of the most innately tanky supports.
Anyway I have theorycrafted him before and tested multiple builds, he simply doesn't work there. You have no comeback mechanic if you get a bad start (which is very possible because you're so gankable). If you breakeven the lane you'll find yourself slowly falling off mid game.
If you do somehow manage to snowball, then you're very dependent on maintaining that snowball or ending fast because items are at most increasing your utility, not your damage output.
You can now get boots at lvl 1 and rush soulring.
His base regen was changed from 0.25 to 2.5, he's much stronger now during laning.
I don't know why you would want to waste him on mid when he is the most tanky support hero in the game with a stun and a slow in lane. Stick him with any carry and get kills cus he's impossible to harass out of lane and you just wait to time your disables. I played as PA vs him and slardar, it was a nightmare, even with CM in my lane. Simply could not produce enough dmg to hurt them before getting stunned to death.
With 3.2 str gain I see him working better in the 1 position than in mid. Just go armlet sny basher whatever and spam bloodlust.

Wow, so many dumb suggestionstions here. Dont put him mid, there are better heroes for that. He dsnt need fucking midas lol that could had been arcanes or forcetaff. Bloodstone lol. ezy bloodstone for support that is buying wards and if u do get that much money go for orchid= silence stun stun will do a lot of damge with orchid active. after arcanes force staff aghs orchyd a good item is hex lots of you ppl need to read what it does. Its rlly good trust me.
