Guys in the dev.dota2.com there are A LOT of discussion about that. I sincerely think that the stats SHOULD NOT be reset, but that's only my opinion. Maybe an alternative option is to enable during the launch week a "reset stats" feature for those that want it.

DOTABUFF's feeling on this is IF Valve resets we will reset. If not it makes no sense for us to reset on our own.
No it shouldn't. Stats help evaluate which heroes are lacking and also keeping a longer record helps even out the variances.
I'd like them to be reset but can't see them doing so because (and only because) some have paid to boost their stats.
Stats should be reset as a "Season" just as they do in other tournament games. This way they keep all of the original stats for balancing and history. As far as DOTABUFF is concerned - They're doing an amazing job and should continue mimicking Valve's choices.
Profile level and items should stay, after all some players payed money for that. Other than those, all other stats and match history should be reset.

Several things:
1 - Yes. Reset stats.
2 - Sadly, its useless if the match maker does not work properly.
3 - Dev.Dota2.com is almost useless now. It isn't very well moderated and most of their threads fall to simple trolling and flaming. Playdota.com is much better.

Lately I've been thinking whether this is a good idea or not.
On one hand, it'd be a shame to lose so many stats, and the game is practically finished already, just isn't free yet.
On the other hand, though, many people used to Beta to experiment, learn and pretty much mess around. Not to mention that many of the heroes were missing when the stats started recording.
There's also the fact that many people people shared their Beta accounts. Yeah, I know, it's against Steam's terms of agreement, but still, many of those people would be pretty disappointed if their stats will stay corrupted 'till the end of time.
Personally, I think the stats should be reset. There will be so many new people joining the game, making a fresh start sound really good.
