it's been hard to ask for solo offlane recently. The carry players don't like splitting their xp 3 ways, with the 2 supports. And jungle is dead. Unless your team gets a roamer or they agree to defensive tri safelane, most games' lanes have been ending up 2-1-2.

Sums up this shitty patch entirely, 2-1-2 is boring as fuck but not many people can play a responsible roamer and not end up feeding and under leveled... Also you can fuck up trilane easy and make it double edge sword, we need new meta lads!
Agreed with both points. Teamates rarely fight you for offlane pos, so it's nice if you can make it your happy place.
Been playing 90% in the offlane for the past year. Either traditional offlaners, or semi-carries. Players at 2-3k rarely pull or zone effectively so it's really easy to get farm/xp and harass the enemy safelaner, with the right hero. Pick tanky, or hard-to-kill agi/int, request a solo offlane, soak xp until lvl 3, then have fun!
most of people i've met want to play carry(pos 1&2) and most of them fail(badly) and idk why pos 3 is not contested

I calibrated at 4.1k, went on a huge losing streak and went down to 3.7k. Couldn't get back up. That's when realized that I need to do something different. Played 2 unranked games with Abaddon and said "this is it". I climbed about 500 mmr from my low point and went from legend 5 to ancient 1, check my Dotabuff for proof. I seemed to hit a plateau at the 4.2-4.3k level but this is my role now for 2 reasons:
1. Everyone wants to play pos 1 or pos 2.
All you're doing when you insta pick safelane or mid is forcing some shitstain exclusive core player into the offlane to feed the enemy carry or jungle for 300 gpm. The only player I want in my offlane is someone who actually wants to do it. You should want to do it. Then your core players can play core like they want to, because face it, you're not actually better than them at the role.
2. Offlane heros have a big impact
Support is always good to play, but odds are you won't climb mmr with them. Offlane heroes have a pretty big impact in all stages of the game. You fuck around with the enemy carry's farm so your own carry can always be ahead (which is an easy job usually) then group up with your team after 1 or 2 items and fuck shit up some more. I group up right after I get vlads on Abaddon, we then take their t1's and gain map control, boosting the gpm of my cores even if they lost their lane (simplified).
